About This Course

The studnets with learn the basics concepts related to Sun and its existence. The students will examine about the various components of solar system other than planets. The students will also learn about the evolution of stars in short.

Unit I:

The Sun: basic characteristics – Origin of sunlight – the sun’s surface – light, matter, motion – the sun’s atmosphere – solar activity

Unit II:

Solar system overview – space debris – asteroids, comets, meteorites – origin of solar system – the story of planet building

Unit III:

Introduction – classification of stars – Harvard classification – Luminosity - Stellar evolution – white dwarfs – Chandrasekar limit – neutron stars – black holes – supernova explosion.

2. Study material prepared by the Department of Physics.

Requirements

All the Undergraduate students in Physics are eligible for this course.
